Felix Sima comes to Bucharest to attend the Medicine Faculty. He lives in the house of his uncle Costache Giurgiuveanu, sourrounded by petty characters, all looking forward to the uncle's death and the divide of his fortune. All seems easier to cope with thanks to beautiful Otilia, a niece of Giurgiuveanu with whom the young man falls madly in love.
