TIFF edition:

The story of the political role and colourful private life of Queen Marie of Romania. The granddaughter of Queen Victoria, she married the Crown Prince of Romania in 1893. We learn how she led the country through the horrors of World War I and to victory at the Paris Peace Conference of 1919. The film doesn't shy away from the less glamorous aspects of Marie's life. Her son, Carol, had always despised his parents, and when he became King he banished Marie from court. And when the Communists took over in 1945 they banished her from history.
