Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) at its 9th edition has set up a wide range of event-screenings, aiming to satisfy even the most demanding tastes of the cinema lovers.

TIFF begins on May 28 in a spectacular Open Air location from Cluj-Napoca, Piata Unirii, with the most recent feature from director Fatih Akin, Soul Kitchen, awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival in 2009. A luscious comedy about a restaurant owner, named Zinos, who seems to be followed by an obnoxious ill luck. His girlfriend has left for China, the clients of his restaurant, Soul Kitchen, are boycotting the new chef, and he himself suffers from back pains that are making his life a nightmare. After finding a solution to these problems, at least apparently, Zinos decides to let the restaurant in the care of his brother, an ex-convict, and leave to search for his love. But the whole situation gets completely out of hand.

Fatih Akin is coming back at TIFF this year for the third time, after being present in the festival with his two successful features Head-On / Gegen die Wand (2004) and Crossing the Bridge (2007).

If this year's 9th edition of TIFF starts with a comedy, for the end of the festival the organizers are suggesting a cutting-edge, sensational documentary, The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu, directed by Andrei Ujica.

Having its world premiere at Cannes 2010, Andrei Ujica's film is portraying Nicolae Ceausescu entirely through images taken from the Romanian National Television and National Film Archive, presenting the Romanian dictator to the public in a completely different light. The audience will be able to see Nicolae Ceausescu during his visits to some building sites or attending diplomatic missions and even witness the moment when the Ceausescu husbands are being brought to trial. The film also includes images that have never been broadcasted until now.

Our list of top-films for this year's Transylvania IFF comprises titles from the Supernova section, like feature The Refuge, directed by Francois Ozon, awarded the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival, Submarino (directed by Thomas Vinterberg), selected in the official competition at the Berlin Film Festival, Hadewijch (directed by Bruno Dumont), Mother (directed by Joon-ho Bong), winner of the Asian Film Awards for Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Actress.

The final list of the 12 films included in TIFF 2010 competition, as well as the ones from the Shadows short-film competition, will be announced on April 30.
