The 13th edition of Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) came to a spectacular end on June 8 via the highly anticipated Romanian premiere of Boyhood (by Richard Linklater) attended by roughly 2000 people in the Unirii Square.

During the 10 days of the festival, TIFF turned the city into a huge cultural centre, with hundreds of screenings, premieres, concerts, masterclasses and debates.

The 217 films from 55 countries equaled 400 screenings and over 63.000 tickets sold. The number is even bigger if we take into account all those who attended the free open air screenings, the masterclasses, the launchings, the exhibitions – thus, the number goes way past 100.000 in 10 days. About 1000 guests – filmmakers, producers, actors, industry members – and Romanian and foreign journalists attended the screening and the side events.

www.tiff.ro was updated daily with vast video and photo galleries and had 46.861 unique visitors and 88.919 visits. 85% users accessed the platform from Romania, but there were also visitors from the US, Great Britain, Germany, France, Hungary, Moldova, Austria, Spain and Italy. 43% visitors were first time users. The official blog of the festival, blog.tiff.ro had over 17.500 readers, the most successful posts being „10 not-to-be-missed things at TIFF 13” and the photos and stories published in the „Humans & Cinema” section.

The Facebook page, TransilvaniaIFF, have received 10.000 new likes, now reaching over 42.000. The number of likes per post went past 20.000, while the number of comments reached 470.

This year, 413 volunteers have helped organizing the TIFF events. Some of them came from Albania, Austria, US, Chile, Spain, France or Poland. The oldest volunteer was 52 and has activated at Mănăștur Open Air.

The foreign guests such as actress Debra Winger and filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi, both of them recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Awards, producer Nik Powell, director of the National Film & Television School, Michael Kutza – the director of the Chicago International Film Festival, filmmakers Peter Webber and János Szász, were impressed with the selection and the overall high quality of the event.

„I'm in charge of a very large festival in Chicago, but 'm still impressed with the TIFF selection. I'm very impressed with everything I see, the type of films, and the various genres. I'm jealous. But I have better weather than you guys”, said Michael Kutza, director and founder of Chicago IFF and member in the TIFF jury. „I've seen wonderful films, I've discovered a city of film aficionados, and this is awesome. I'm thinking of coming back to shoot a film – this city begs to be shot on film", added Kutza.

„I think that TIFF, Mihai Chirilov and Tudor Giurgiu, together with their whole team, have one of the best film selections in the whole world. Here, I was introduced to the largest number of films offering an interesting perspective on life”, said British producer Nik Powell, jury member.

„i love the festival! One hour in after arriving here, I'd already met with lots of people from the industry whom I'm used to see in other festivals, as well. It's a very good sign if a festival manages to attract this kind of audience. Congratulations!”, said actress Debra Winger, recipient of the Lifetime achievement Award.

The American magazine „The Hollywood Reporter” wrote at great length about the „Save the Big Screen!” campaign and about the crowdfunding campaign meant to sanitize the Film Warehouse on  Maiakovski street in the editorial „Romanian Filmmakers Launch Campaign to Stop Cinema Closures”, while „Screen Daily” focused on awards and industry events in the Transilvania Trophy goes to Spain review.

Roughly 50 films from the TIFF selection come to Bucharest, in a retrospective playing at Cinema Studio, Elvira Popescu and J’ai Bistrot, between June 10-19. Full schedule on www.tiff.ro.
