TIFF.6 - 2007
The sixth edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival took place in Cluj-Napoca from June 1 to June 10, 2007. The edition consolidated TIFF’s position as one of the most important film events in Romania, through an extensive program, prestigious international guests, major premieres and a strong presence of Romanian cinema.
The festival presented 111 feature films and 49 short films, productions from 39 countries, grouped into 14 sections. Screenings took place in established venues such as the Republica, Victoria and Arta cinemas, as well as in alternative and open-air locations.
One of the defining moments of the edition was the presence of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, directed by Cristian Mungiu, which came to TIFF shortly after winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes. The film had a major impact on audiences and confirmed the peak moment of the Romanian New Wave on the international stage.
The edition opened with The Rest Is Silence, Nae Caranfil’s film, presented in a Romanian preview screening. Among the special screenings was also Moromeții, shown 20 years after its release in a restored version, in the presence of director Stere Gulea and members of the film’s team. The program also included special events, concerts, meetings with guests, masterclasses and screenings dedicated to major figures of international cinema. The Let’s Go Digital! workshop also continued in 2007, giving teenagers passionate about cinema the opportunity to make short films during the festival.
