Why do we still need to care about the past? What can we learn from the experiences of those who came before us? What are the benefits of suffering and how can the Communist prison experience be summarised in only three words? The “Memory of Suffering” exhibition, put together by the Centre for Contemporary History Studies and the Hanns Seidel Foundation, proposes a modern concept based on perspective, while betting on the public’s curiosity to interact with it. The 27 panels display the faces of 27 former political detainees of the Romanian Communist era, when seen from close up. At the same time, they make up three words conveying a universal message. The basic information provided by the exhibition is enhanced via the online medium for those you wish to learn more about the figures on display.
