Diary for My Children

Director:
Márta Mészáros

After 1945 the surviving members of an emigrated Hungarian family, the grandparents and Juli, return from the Soviet Union. They move in to Magda's who has come to hold a high position of confidence. Juli is annoyed by the cold, suspicious and humiliating atmosphere in the large apartment and in a world which is carefully isolated from the masses of the public. The cinema is her escape, and the free-thinking János, an engineer who does not require Magda's help, means shelter and protection. How will Juli come to terms with the two worlds in which she lives?
