The 24th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival ended on a high note Sunday evening: over 5,000 people attended the AMADEUS LIVE event at BT Arena, while 3,000 locals gathered in Unirii Square to watch the closing film, SIRÂT (dir. Oliver Laxe), on the giant open-air screen. These final night numbers brought the festival’s total attendance to an impressive 125,000 spectators, as Transilvania IFF once again turned Cluj into a true capital of film and culture for ten days.

Transilvania IFF.24 Winners: Stories of Survival and the Past Claim the Festival’s Top Honors

The Transilvania Trophy, worth €10,000, was awarded to To a Land Unknown (UK), an intense drama about two Palestinian refugees living in Athens, caught between petty scams and the hope of a better life in Germany. Amid a climate of despair and moral compromise, one of them spirals deeper into a cycle of manipulation and exploitation of those around him.

Béla Tarr and Maria de Medeiros Arrive in Cluj, Dozens of Other Film Industry Figures Await You at the Festival

Béla Tarr, one of Europe's most important filmmakers, has arrived in Cluj-Napoca, where he will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) Awards Gala. Until then, audiences will have the chance to meet him at the cinema and attend a special masterclass. Dozens of other guests are also expected in Cluj for the final days of TIFF. Among them: Portuguese actress Maria de Medeiros, director Andrei Ujică, and the team behind Sirât (dir. Oliver Laxe), winner of a prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival—Spanish actress Jade Oukid and co-producer and costume designer Nadia Acimi.
