CITIZEN ASHE & NASTY (work in progress)

Director:
Rex Miller, Sam Pollard

Known to most by his stellar sports career - Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open winner and the first black player to be selected for the US Davis Cup Team, Arthur Ashe should be praised also for his activism: he embraced not only the Civil Right movement and African-Americans but all oppressed peoples throughout the world. Here is his story.

In the opening of the event at Cinema Victoria on June 19, 17:45, the documentary Nasty will be screened for the first time (r. Tudor Giurgiu, 2022, work in progress).

The original bad boy of world tennis, but also one of the most performing and appreciated tennis players of all time, Ilie Năstase will be present at this screening, together with Tudor Giurgiu. The film documents the athlete's life and career (his record counts 64 ATP titles, two Grand Slams, three Davis Cup finals) and includes archive footage, as well as interviews with guests such as Boris Becker and Rafael Nadal.
