The summer of 1913 in a village close to Buzău. The teacher's son Ionică watches as the hard life of the poor villagers goes on. The war is near and his neighbours, deprived of land, have to work sixteen hours a day at the oil drills in exchange of wages of misery. Is there any hope for them?
