Masterclass Ben Wheatley
Ben Wheatley to Give a Masterclass at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Saturday, June 20, at 11:30 AM
Ben Wheatley is one of the most original and unpredictable British filmmakers of his generation. From the psychological thriller Kill List (2011) to the dystopian drama High-Rise (2015), from the dark comedy Sightseers (2012) to the blockbuster Meg 2: The Trench (2023), his films consistently resist categorization, blending horror with satire, violence with absurd humor, and conventional storytelling with bold experimentation.
Wheatley is a filmmaker of contrasts—an auteur capable of moving seamlessly between arthouse cinema and large-scale studio productions without ever losing his distinctive voice.
With his latest feature, screening at TIFF.25, Wheatley returns to the territory where he feels most at home: the controlled chaos of independent filmmaking, created on a minimal budget with improvised equipment and boundless imagination. Bulk is both a science-fiction thriller and a love letter to the art of cinema itself—a film not to be missed on the big screen.
The film stars Sam Riley alongside Romanian-born actress Alexandra Maria Lara.
The masterclass will offer audiences and industry professionals a chance to explore Wheatley’s unique creative process, his genre-defying approach to filmmaking, and the career of a director who continues to challenge expectations with every new project.
TIFF Masterclasses are open to the public and free of charge, subject to venue capacity.
