Transilvania IFF presents a new cultural project that aims to bring the film back to rural communities

The project Free Reel Romania will take place over the course of six weeks beginning in August 2012. During this time the project will carry out a series of free film screenings and filmmaking workshops in rural communities across Romania, that have little or no access to cultural activities. The aim is to use cinema as a powerful tool for education and to create for rural communities a platform for the discussion of important social issues facing them.

An estimated 20 screenings will take place across the country followed by a Q&A session with filmmakers involved in the production of the films. In addition 5 four-day filmmaking workshops will be conducted with youth from the communities. The short films produced in the workshops will be screened in the local community and toured across Romania as well as being showcased in special screenings at Transilvania IFF, NexT IFF, Open City, AFF (Astra Film Festival), One World Romania and other established film festivals from Romania and UK throughout 2012 and 2013.  The project will offer the most promising participant a short scholarship at Brighton Film School Central, UK.

Free Reel Romania will be officially launched at Transilvania International Film Festival  on June 7th, 15.00 at TIFF Lounge.

Free Reel Romania is a non-profit project proposed by Free Reel Mobile Cinema, an  initiative of Cinephilia Services Ltd.
