Transilvania IFF pays homage on Wednesday to a number of important Romanian and European filmmakers. Liviu Ciulei, a famous personality of Romanian theater and film, working as a director, actor and set designer, and the first Romanian winner of the Palme d'Or for Best Directing, is the recipient of the Excellency Award (offered by Mercedes-Benz), and also one of the three outstanding directors included in the 3 x 3 section.
At 6 PM, the UBB Auditorium Hall will host the special screening of Danube Waves, winner of the Karlovy Vary Crystal Globe in 1960. The gala screening will be held in the honor of Liviu Ciulei, director and also an actor, and leading actress Irina Petrescu will be on stage to meet the audience and talk about the film. The film tells the story of two men and one woman travelling on the Danube with a barge heaped with ammunition. It's August 1944, and the barge could hit anytime the mines put by the Nazi soldiers. The tension is heightened by the danger, but also by the suspicion and rivalry between the two men.
