A concert of weird instruments, turn-of-the-century cinematic experiences and a show by Radu Afrim and Vlaicu Golcea based on Maria Tănase remixes are some of the companions of the excellent films screened during Transilvania International Film Festival.

In addition to the multimedia show Maria T. by Bălănescu Quartet, Maria Tănase's songs will be heard at TIFF in „Hai Iu Iu NU Hi You You”, a show by Radu Afrim și Vlaicu Golcea, a show also known as „Maria Tănase remixes concert”. 13 songs of the famed artist will be electro-arranged live by musician/composer Vlaicu Golcea and sang with a lot of imagination and talent by various actors. Actress Maia Morgenstern will offer a personal rendition of one of the aforementioned songs. The original Maria Tănase tribute became reality last fall, during the HOP – Young Actor Gala in Costineşti and is the direct result of the „Maria Tănase – 1913-2013” workshop coordinated by Golcea. „Hai Iu Iu NU Hi You You” will be presented at Cluj on June 5, at 10 PM, at the Students' Culture House.

Another original show comes from Poland: Male Instrumenty / Small Instruments. On Saturday, May 31, at 10 PM, at Casa TIFF, the audience will be able to enjoy a less than ordinary musical performance based on unconventional instruments improvised from old toys, reconditioned trash, various objects and weird inventions. Their music is unique and surprising, the five members of the band being always in search of new objects and sounds. Consequently, on May 31, in the afternoon, they will also hold an improvised workshop about musical instruments in Bonțida, as part of the Weekend at the Castle program. There, they will meet with various folk musicians and villagers who will introduce them to the local instruments. The five Polish musicians will learn how to make it and use it in their shows.

The band, created in 2006, toured the biggest cites of Europe with live shows featuring Nino Rota's or Ennio Morricone's music. In 2010, Male Instrumenty recorded Chopin's music using its whole collection of over 70 toy pianos. Pawel Romanczuk, the leader and founder of the band is the author of the first book ever written about the history of the toy piano.

On June 1, from 11 AM, Charlie Chaplin, Stan & Bran and Buster Keaton will come back to life at the „Florin Piersic” cinema via an unique experience: Cinepiano, a show by artist Tony Berchmans. Coming all the way from Brazil, the composer/pianist recreates the magic of the turn-of-the-century cinema when the moving image was accompanied live by music, sounds and noises. The 1929 comedy Big Business starring Stan & Bran, the touching and amusing A Dog’s Life (1918), staring Charlie Chaplin and the classic Cops (1922), starring Buster Keaton, will be thus accompanied by sighs, laughs, noises and song created live on the piano.

Tony Berchmans's music combines classic and folk music with personal compositions drawing on ragtime and jazz. From 2009, the musician has accompanied live silent films in various museums and cinemas. He is a musical producer, author of books about film music and curator of the first edition of the International Film Music Conference (2007), which took place in Rio de Janeiro. The show, dedicated to the whole family, features in the EducaTIFF program and opens the second day of the Weekend at the Castle program.

Another concert, this time at Casa TIFF, will be held by Teodora Enache, the  jazz singer also known as  „Romania's Ella Fitzgerald”, one of the best jazz voices in the country, an artist who toured Europe and the US and worked with Johnny Răducanu, Les Paul, Stanley Jordan, Ricardo Scale or Billy Cobham.

Last but not least, Theory of Mind, a Cluj band whose line-up consists of singer, composer and producer Vladimir Bosînceanu, his brother, Andrei Bosînceanu (bass), Alex Cos (guitar) and Tudor Bilt (battery). Theory of Mind employs various music genres such as post-rock, dream pop, psychedelic and experimental.
