Friday night, the ninth edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival has opened its doors to the public; an edition that has in store a record amount of films, unforgettable events and distinguished guests.

Over 1500 people have turned up for the opening gala at the new festival location, Ursus Open Air, in Unirii Square, welcoming with great enthusiasm and excitement the many surprises that the organizers have prepared for them. Following the event-preview of the film Dracula, with live music by American guitarist Gary Lucas, who won over the audience of the Gala, the following people took the stage to deliver the opening speeches: Tudor Giurgiu - festival director, Mihai Chirilov - artistic director and Sorin Apostu, Mayor of Cluj-Napoca.

Afterwards, Unirii Square hosted two emotionally charged video moments commemorating the great actor Jean Constanin and film critic Ron Holloway, dear friend of the festival, two personalities of the national and European cinemas, that have passed away.

The opening night of the festival continued with the long-awaited comedy Soul Kitchen, directed by Fatih Akin.
