TIFF.24 Masterclass: Maria de Medeiros, Bela Tarr, Andrei Ujică

Filmmaker Andrei Ujică, author of some of the most essential works in documentary cinema, will be honored at the 24th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival (June 13–22, 2025, Cluj-Napoca), where he will receive the Excellence Award for his outstanding contribution to the art of cinema. His presence at TIFF.24 will be marked by a special screening of TWST – Things We Said Today, a masterclass, and public meet-and-greets. The Excellence Award, offered by Nova Power & Gas, will be presented to Andrei Ujică during the TIFF.24 Closing Gala at the National Theatre.

The legendary Béla Tarr, one of the world’s most important and influential filmmakers, is the special guest of TIFF.24, where he will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

With the exception of Sátántangó, TIFF.24 will screen the complete collection of Béla Tarr’s fiction films: Family Nest, The Outsider, Prefab People, Autumn Almanac, Damnation, Werckmeister Harmonies, The Man from London, and The Turin Horse – each shown in a single special screening. Béla Tarr’s presence at TIFF.24 is made possible with the support of the National Film Institute Hungary and the Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Centre Bucharest.

Known to audiences, among other roles, for her unforgettable performance in Pulp Fiction, directed by Quentin Tarantino, actress Maria de Medeiros will be honored at TIFF.24, where she will receive the Transilvania Trophy for Special Contribution to World Cinema.

The festival will also host a screening of her latest film, A Portuguese Country House (Una Quinta Portuguesa – 2025), directed by Avelina Prat. The actress will attend the screening alongside the film’s director.
