The selection was made by Mihai Chirilov, Transilvania IFF Artistic Director, and includes 12 feature films and 16 shorts, which are going to be screened at Cluj, between June 6th and June 9th.
Friday, June 8 at 15.45 Cinema Florin Piersic, Killing Time will be seen at Transilvania IFF 2012. This is Florin Piersic Jr.’s second feature film, where he takes the triple role of director, actor and scriptwriter. The story follows two hit men killing time before the arrival of their victim, in a black comedy with a noir flavour.
Another national premiere is Of Snails and Men directed by Tudor Giurgiu. The second screening will take place Friday, June 8 at 20.15 Cinema Florin Piersic. It is the amusing story of a group of workers from a bankrupt factory at the beginning of the '90s, whose lives are about to change when one of the boys comes up with an original solution for saving the factory from closing and his colleagues from unemployment.
Also a premiere, Dan Chişu’s Chasing Rainbows will tell a story about the illusion of getting rich overnight. The film can be seen Friday June 8 at Cinema Victoria.
Romanian Days line up includes: Everybody in Our Family, Radu Jude’s family drama with thriller accents (Saturday June 09, Cinema Victoria), Somewhere in Palilula, directed by the acclaimed theatre director Silviu Purcarete, (Thursday June 08 Casa de Cultura a Studentilor) and Adrian Sitaru’s Best Intentions, winner of Best Director and Best Actor (Bogdan Dumitrache) at Locarno IFF 2011 (Thursday, June 07, Cinema Marasti, 18.00 and Odeon Cineplex, June 09, 15.00).
Saturday June 09, 12.30 at Odeon Cineplex, filmgoers will get a chance to see a Romanian feature animation - Crulic - The Path to Beyond, directed by Anca Damian. Another surprise film comes from director Radu Gabrea. 3 Days till Christmas, is a docudrama about the last days of Dictator Ceausescu’s life, from his helicopter escape to the execution line, and will be premiered during the 11th edition of the festival. The screening wil take place Thursday June 07, 17.00 Cinema Victoria.
The documentaries are also well represented this year in Romanian Days. Ivana Mladenovic is present with her debut documentary, Turn off the Lights that follows the destiny of three youngsters who were just released from prison. The film can be seen Thursday, June 07, 12.30 Cinema Victoria and Saturday June 09, 11.00 Cinema Arta.
Anca Hirte’s Teodora Sinner about life in orthodox monasteries will be screened at Odeon Cineplex June 08, at 15.15. Bogdan Ilie-Micu’s A Dream’s Merchant will complete the selection along with Alexandru Belc’s 8th of March about Woman Day in Communist Era.
Romanian productions will also be seen in different other non-competitive sections throughout the festival. Kiddo, directed by Millo Simulov, will test the audience with an interactive screening where the fate of protagonists in the key moments will be chosen live by spectators.
Dan Curean’s mesmerizing documentary Gone Wild will tell the story of the last wild horses from Danube Delta. Developed in Discovery Campus MasterSchool for Franco-German TV network Arte, the documentary will premiere at Transilvania IFF. Stefan Constantinescu, a Romanian director based in Sweden, will bring Family Dinner, a short film selected in Semaine de la Critique, about a woman who exchanges kinky text messages with her lover, while her family is preparing dinner. HBO Day will also present two Romanian documentaries: Visiting Room, directed by Radu Muntean and Alexandru Baciu and Digging for Life by Pavel Cuzuioc.
