Book to Screen 2026: Open Call for Romanian Authors, Publishers, and Directors
Book to Screen is a new program hosted during the Transilvania International Film Festival (June 12–21, 2026), dedicated to exploring the cinematic potential of books written by Romanian authors. The program is open to authors, book publishers, and Romanian directors.
Book to Screen aims to facilitate direct interaction between the publishing and audiovisual sectors, contributing to an increase in the number of adaptations and strengthening collaboration between authors, publishers, and film and television professionals. It provides a professional framework in which literary works can be presented, developed, and transformed into film projects, bringing together rights holders, authors, producers, directors, and screenwriters interested in contemporary literature.
Applications are open until May 1, 2026. The full regulations can be found here.
Participation in the Book to Screen event takes place in two main stages:
Stage 1 - Application and Selection
Authors and publishers, as well as directors, are invited to apply for the event. Following the selection process, the chosen participants will advance to the second stage. Selection will be announced mid May.
Stage 2 - Pitch Sessions
The Book to Screen event includes two types of pitch sessions:
- Pitch for Authors and Publishers
Romanian authors and publishers present their works in a pitch of up to 5 minutes, in front of an audience composed of producers, directors, and distributors. - Pitch for Directors
Directors propose a book for screen adaptation and present their directorial vision for the adaptation, in a pitch of up to 5 minutes.
After each presentation, participants benefit from an additional 5-minute Q&A session with the audience.
After the presentations, a jury made up of Romanian and international professionals will award a prize to one of the pitches presented by an author or editor. Details about the prize will be announced soon.
Book to Screen is organized by TIFF, in partnership with Matca, Curtea Veche Publishing, PRO TV, and VOYO.
