Another Spring
It’s the end of the 1980s, in a provincial town in communist Romania. Ioana, a 13 y.o. student, ends up in the school’s medical office regarding a tummy ache, to find out from the nurse she has her first period.
Without receiving any empathy from the adults around, she gets sent home and tries to cope with the event. She washes the blood on her underwear, she eats, she lies in bed with cramps, and at one point we can see her putting some red lipstick on from a nearly finished container.
With her lipstick on and unbound hair she goes downstairs, where her sister was kissing her boyfriend on a bench. At first she gets ironised about the lipstick, then the two sisters get into an argument about Ioana not being able to go to buy daily groceries, but in the end the two teenagers realize Ioana has a real problem and her older sister goes home with her offering her the comfort and advice she needed so much and promising she will be there for her.
