Musical events & silent films with live scoring at Transilvania IFF

From concerts to live score for classic silent films, the musical events at Transilvania IFF wil be once more a reson to spend the night in town.

The avant-garde band Laibach composer of the soundtrack for the movie Iron Sky, will offer an extraordinary concert at Hotel Continental in Cluj, on Wednesday, June 6th. Related to industrial and neo-classical music styles, the Laibach phenomenon began in 1980, in the underground cultural life of Communist era. Although starting out as a multi-disciplinary art practice group, Laibach became internationally renowned foremost on the music scene, particularly with their unique cover-versions and interpretations of hits by Queen, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.

Two of the most influential jazz bands of the moment will come to Cluj straight from Green Hours International Jazz Fest, to perform live at Casa TIFF on June 3rd and June 5th. Sunday, Contemporary Noise Sextet will give a classy performance at Casa TIFF with their very personal way of transcending musical genre. Tuesday, a new session will thrill the core jazz audience. Nils Petter Molvær Trio comes to Casa TIFF with one of Jazz Fusion pioneers- Nils Petter Molvær, jazz trumpeter, composer, and producer.

Under the umbrella of Transilvania IFF Music Night. on June 4th, at 9.30 pm, five electro music stars of the moment : Baba Zula (Turkey) and Nôze (France), together with Nico de Transilvania (UK), Buscemi (Belgium) and Sekuoia (Denmark) will offer a spectacular performance in the unconventional space of Hala Flacăra, in Cluj.

Underlining once more the idea of diversity, silent films will be screened together with live score provided by various artists from different musical genres. We must begin with a long expected performance, the first visit in Romania of Steven Severin. Thursday, June 7th, at 21.45, Steven Severin will accompany with live music the screening of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1932 classic horror Vampyr at Casa TIFF. The artist promises a hunting performance and an unforgettable evening for film buffs.

Monday, June 4th, at 21.30, The Shadow of Dr. Caligari descends upon TIFF Art. Three American avant-garde short films, inspired by the 1920 classic, will be screened along with live musical accompaniment provided by the Romanian band Einuiea.

The first Romanian feature Independenta Romaniei (directed by Grigore Brezeanu and Aristide Demetriade) will also be screened at Transilvania IFF.  DJ Dubase&Leizaboy, pioneers of Romanian electro music stage, will deliver a vibrant score for the 100 anniversary of this film.
