In an ultra-modern Paris of glass and steel, where familiar landmarks appear only as fleeting reflections, Monsieur Hulot wanders through a whirring office complex, an exhibition of new inventions and an upscale party, repeatedly crossing paths with a group of American tourists.
Monsieur Hulot adores his shabby old-town apartment and cannot fathom why his sister has moved to an ultra-modern suburb, into a gadget-filled showcase house. His only real joy is his young nephew, whom the family tries to mold in the image of this new mechanized world.
Maria Angeles, a 79-year-old Spanish woman, lives alone in Tangier, in northern Morocco, where she enjoys the city and her daily life. Everything changes when her daughter, Clara, arrives from Madrid to sell the apartment in which she has lived her entire life.
