The Young Dictator

Young Nicolae lives in dire poverty. He is sent to Bucharest, where he is apprenticed to a shoemaker and to communism. He ends up in jail. Ceaușescu attracts the attention of Dej, the head of the imprisoned communists. Released from jail, Nicolae is thrown onto the wartime streets of Bucharest. He falls for Elena. Together, they find a strength they never possessed individually.
