Mother, by Bong Joon-ho- Gala screening at TIFF 2010

On Friday, May 28, 2010 at Cinema Republica from Cluj-Napoca, starting with 18:30 o’clock, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Romania, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Korea and Romania, organizes the Gala Screening of the Korean film ‘Mother’ (129 min). This event is part of the ninth edition of the “Transilvania International Film Festival” organized in Cluj-Napoca, between May 28-June 6, 2010.

‘Mother’ is a South Korean drama film, which competed in the Un Certain Regard category at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, and was directed by Bong Joon-ho. The film tells the story of a mother who struggles to save her son from a murder accusation, in her determined quest for justice.

This year there will be a wide participation of Korean films within the “Transilvania International Film Festival”.The Film Festival is going to showcase various genres of Korean films, from post-modern “Café Noir” to blockbuster “Haeundae”, which would all demonstrate the unique and peculiar status of Korean movies in the history of world film, one of which might be the artistic description of human pathos.

On the occasion of the Gala Screening, on May 28, 2010, also Mr. Lee Yong-il, Consul General of the Embassy will be present in Cluj-Napoca. The Embassy of the Republic of Korea believes that this event will serve as an opportunity to promote the Korean cinema and strengthen the cultural cooperation between the two countries, in particular on the occasion of the celebration this year of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Romania.
