Ada Solomon

Bio

Ada was born in Bucharest in 1968 and as a teenager she dreamt to become an actress. She instead became one of Romania's leading producers, with more than 200 awards at festivals around the world.

In 2004, Ada founded together with Avi Karpick the film production company Hi Film. Since then she has produced and co-produced over 60 titles with selections at festivals like Berlin, Cannes, Locarno, Karlovy Vary, Sundance and Sarajevo. She has co-produced features with over 15 countries around Europe and sold her films in over 50 territories around the world.

Among her achievements as producer are the Crystal Globe for Best Film in Karlovy Vary for "I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians" by Radu Jude, Silver Leopard in Locarno for Scarred Hearts, the Berlinale Golden Bear for Child’s Pose by Călin Netzer, Silver Bear for Best Director for Aferim! by Radu Jude and many more.

Adina Pintilie

Bio

Adina is a Romanian film director and screenwriter. She graduated in 2008 from the University of Theatre and Film I.L. Caragiale in Bucharest. Her first film Don't Get Me Wrong won the Golden Dove Trophy at the 2007 DOK Leipzig Festival, and was subsequently screened at dozens of other festivals around the world.

Her debut feature Touch Me Not was awarded the Golden Bear at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival. Adina is currently developing her second feature, Death and the Maiden. She is also the artistic director of the Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival, which has reached its tenth edition.

ANDRÁS HATHÁZI

Bio

András is an actor, a director, a writer and an acting professor at the Faculty of Theater and Film at the „Babeș-Bolyai” in Cluj-Napoca. In 2003 he earned his PhD in theatre at the Budapest Theater and Film University. He has played in more than 100 plays and films. He has directed dozens of plays.

He has received more than 50 national and international awards, among them the Jászai Mari Award (2011), the Gábor Miklós Award (2011), the UNITER Award (2008, 2013), The Best Actor Award (ex aequo, at the 2011 Thessaloniki IFF). He is best known for playing the male lead in Morgen (2010) and Orizont (2015). He plays a supporting character in Valan – Valley of Angels, a thriller that will be screened at this edition of TIFF.

CSABA SZÉKELY

Bio

Csaba Székely is a playwright and screenplayer who writes in Hungarian. His first play, “Do You Like Banana, Comrades?”, won the regional prize for Europe at the BBC’s International Radio Playwriting Competition in 2009. He has written a trilogy, “The Mine Trilogy”, about country life in Transylvania, examining issues such as unemployment, alcoholism, nationalism, corruption and high rates of suicide among Hungarian population. The three plays have been produced in Hungarian, Romanian and Slovakian theatres.

The most recent play based on his writings is “I Regret Nothing”, about the crimes of communism. The play was included in the programme of Act Theatre in Bucharest. He is one of the scriptwriters for the third season of HBO Hungary’s show Terápia (In Treatment).

PHILIP O CEALLAIGH

Bio

Philip has published over forty stories, many of them collected in “Notes from a Turkish Whorehouse” – for which he was awarded the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature - and “The Pleasant Light of Day”. Both volumes were published by Penguin. His third collection, “Trouble”, is forthcoming in autumn 2020.

He is also an essayist and translator, including of Mihail Sebastian’s “For Two Thousand Years”, published by Penguin Classics. His work has appeared in Granta, The Dublin Review, The Los Angeles Review of Books and on BBC Radio 4 and has been translated into thirteen languages.

He lives in Bucharest.

DAN FĂINARU

Bio

Dan Făinaru was born in Romania and moved to Israel in 1950. Studied at the Haifa Institute of Technology, joined the Army Broadcasting Service (Galei Zahal) in 1957.

From 1970 until 2003, he worked for the Israel Broadcasting Authority . Founder and co-editor of the only film magazine in the country, Cinematheque. Reviewed films in the past for Variety (1979-91) and later Moving Pictures, is now regularly reviewing for Screen International. Israeli correspondent of The International Film Guide, also contributor on Israeli cinema for the Hebrew Encyclopedia, Encyclopedia Judaica and the Larousse du Cinema.

Was director of the Israeli Film Institute (1979-81), chairman of the Israeli Film Critics Association (1976-86) and vice-president of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) between 1991 and 1999.

EDVINAS PUKŠTA

Bio

Edvinas Puksta is a Programmer, Film hunter, Member of the European Film Academy, Festival traveller and freelance reporter from Lithuania. After 15 years of programming, coordinating, and scheduling for Vilnius IFF he now watches films, scouts and advises for Black Nights Film Festival in Tallinn since summer of 2018.

Edvinas regularly attends international film festivals in Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America since 2001. He visited 18 film festivals and saw 925 feature films in 2018. Edvinas is an expert in Selection Committee of the European Film Awards. He also previously judged short and feature films as a Jury member in many festivals such as Cannes and Busan.

MARCEL MAÏGA

Bio

Born in Berlin, Marcel studied and taught German language and literature in Mali, followed by studies of French and Russian language and literature in Berlin. Since 1995, he works as a freelancer for the Berlinale team (since 1995). He was a program adviser for the Listapad FF

Minsk, Belarus, for the Prifilmfest Prishtina, Kosovo and for the Schlingel IFF Chemnitz in Germany.

Since 2011 he is working as program coordinator of the DOK Leipzig festival. In 1996 he joined the Filmfestival Cottbus team, where he was the head of the program coordination from 1999-2011. Curator of the Russian Day program and program adviser for Russian films at Cottbus FF. In 2019 he has joined the German Films company as its Eastern European representative

ARTUR BRZOZOWSKI

Bio

Artur has a degree in theatre studies and Dutch philology from the Free University of Berlin. Initially started off his career in the film industry by working in sales and acquisition, before he started to work as a short-film programmer for the Fantasy Filmfest, the largest genre film festival in Germany, in 2010. In 2013 and 2014, Artur co-founded the first genre festival in Poland, Black Bear Filmfest. Since the beginning of 2019, Artur is the co-director of Fantasy Filmfest and he is also responsible for TIFF's own fantasy and horror sidebar, Full Moon.

GUILLAUME DE SEILLE

Bio

Guillaume was born in 1968 and, after engineering studies and directing two short film, he worked ten years for Canal+ in the cinema department and as an artistic producer for French public broadcaster France 2. Independent producer since 2000, he produced or co-produced more than 50 non-French feature arthouse films selected in every major festival and theatrically released in France.

The most recent films he co-produced under Arizona Productions are Yellow Cat by Adilkhan Yerzhanov, to be screened in the Orizzonti competition at the 2020 Venice film festival, and The Island Within by Ru Hasanov, to be screened at the 2020 Sarajevo film festival.

SILJE NIKOLINE GLIMSDAL

Bio

Silje started as an intern at Zentropa in 2009, and she quickly joined their international sales team at TrustNordisk, one of the leading sales agencies in Europe, that same year. With a bachelor in dramaturgy from the University of Aarhus, Silje has collaborated with writers for both the theatre and the film industry. Apart from being a sales manager at TrustNordisk, she is responsible for incoming projects and script development as project manager.

JEAN-MAX MÉJEAN

Bio

Jean-Max is a cinema professor and critic. He wrote many books about great directors such as Federico Fellini, Woody Allen, Pedro Almodovar, Sergueï Paradjanov and Emir Kusturica. He also managed some cinema collective works, for example "Philosophie et cinema" and "Comment parler de cinéma"

He wrote for Jeune Cinema, Éclipses and on the website Iletaitunefoislecinema.com and Jeunecinema.fr. His most recent studies, about L'Atalante and La Grande Vadrouille, have been published in the "Les meilleurs films de notre vie" and "Les Films sélectionnés" collections owned by the Gremese publishing house.

JENNI ZYLKA

Bio

Jenni writes about film and music for nationwide newspapers and magazines (e.g. „Spiegel“), works as a film critic for several radio stations, writes film scripts, co-curates the Panorama Section of the Berlin Film Festival, moderates film talks, film press conferences and film panels for the Berlin Film Festival, the International Short Film Festival Dresden and the International Film Festival Emden-Norderney. She is also a member of several film award jurys, works for the Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media, and teaches journalism.

MARINA KOSTOVA

Bio

Marina is an award-winning journalist, one of the leading film critics and reporters in the

Republic of North Macedonia. She is a founding member and deputy Editor-in-Chief of the SDK digital newsroom. She was a founding member and Deputy of Editor in Chief of Vest Daily, at the time the biggest newspaper in the country.

She edited the books "Manchevski Monograph" and "Rain - The World About Milcho Manchevski's Before the Rain". She participated in FIPRESCI juries at a number of film festivals (Venice, Sarajevo, Istanbul, Thessaloniki, Oberhausen, Chemnitz, and Mannheim among others).

Denisa DRAGOMIR

Bio

Studentă la Facultatea de Litere din Cluj-Napoca, am 21 de ani și sunt plină de viața, dinamică și optimistă. Îmi plac lucrurile bine făcute și îmi place și să mă fac mereu utilă. Marile mele pasiuni sunt animalele, sportul și filmele. Un film bun este mereu binevenit. Mi-am descoperit pasiunea pentru filme când eram doar un copil, fiind singura metodă prin care adormeam cu mama. Această pasiune încă persistă, dar cu o viziune mai matură și atentă la arta cinematografică. Dacă în copilărie filmele mele favorite erau cele de animație, acum favoritele mele sunt cele de acțiune, istorice și bineînțeles, comediile (cui nu-i plac comediile). Un scenariu bine construit, cu o acțiune captivantă jucată corespunzător de actorii potriviți constituie, în opinia mea, baza unui film de calitate. Cred că pentru a fi cu adevărat bun, un film trebuie să te captiveze astfel încât nimic și nimeni să nu-ți poată distrage atenția, indiferent de gen. Filmele rămân pentru mine modul de a intra într-un alt univers și a descoperi lumea.

Daria ICHIM

Bio

Sunt studentă la Facultatea de Litere din Cluj-Napoca, iar legătura mea cu cinematografia franceză datează de pe vremea liceului, când, fiind la profil de bilingv franceză, diriginta ne proiecta mereu filme foarte cunoscute. Astfel, am început ușor cu Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis, Le hérisson sau Le petit Nicolas, formându-mi treptat o cultură cinefilă franceză. Când am ajuns la Cluj, această pasiune a luat și mai mult avânt, împrumutând regulat filme diverse de la Mediateca Institutlui Francez. În mod clișeic sau nu, sunt o fană a filmelelor de dragoste și comedie, mai ales cele franceze. În ultimul timp, însă, am început să urmăresc și multe filme și seriale istorice, în special cele biografice. Pentru mine, cel mai important e ca filmul să aibă un scop didactic, să știu că la urmă rămân cu o lecție nouă sau cu informații noi referitoare la un anume subiect despre care ulterior pot să cercetez mai amănunțit.

Raluca MOROZAN

Bio

Tocmai ce am absolvit Facultatea de Litere din Cluj-Napoca, la departamentul de Limbi Moderne Aplicate. Sunt o persoană activă și dornică de experiențe noi. Îmi place să mă implic în diverse activități culturale și de voluntariat, motiv pentru care am ales să îmi efectuez stagiatura la Institutul Francez din Cluj, în cadrul căruia am avut ocazia să particip la diferite evenimente și să cunosc oameni minunați. Trebuie să mărturisesc că ador lumea cinematografiei și tot ceea ce ține de ea, în copilărie dorindu-mi chiar să devin actriță. Vizionez filme atât acasă, cât și la cinema, iar preferatele mele sunt cele inspirate din viața reală, cele istorice sau cele de acțiune. Le aleg în funcție de starea mea de spirit, dar apreciez dacă povestea este una interesantă, dacă mesajul este puternic, și în cea mai mare parte dacă mă țin cu sufletul la gură până la final. Așadar, sunt foarte încântată că o să fac parte din Jury jeune francophone în cadrul TIFF, unul dintre festivalurile mele favorite. Atmosfera, proiecțiile, oamenii, toate dau o altă energie Clujului, o stare bună de care avem cu adevărat nevoie în vremurile în care trăim.

Bianca LAZĂR

Bio

Sunt studentă la Limbi Moderne Aplicate, la Facultatea de Litere din Cluj-Napoca, iar anul acesta am fost și studentă Erasmus în Rennes, Franța. Încă de mică am iubit limbile străine și, în special limba franceză. Cred că atunci când iubim și vorbim o limbă străină ne identificam perfect cu ceea ce aceasta transmite, și probabil acesta este și motivul pentru care mă regăsesc în limba franceză, iar, mai apoi, în cinematografia francofonă. Acum un an, am început stagiul la Institutul Francez din Cluj, experiență care m-a ajutat si mă ajuta în continuare pe mai multe planuri. Pe lângă limbile străine, sunt pasionată și de pictură, fotografie și filme. In ceea ce privește cinematografia, îmi place mult să observ mesajul din spatele filmelor și modul în care actorii îl transmit. Printre filmele mele preferate francofone se numără: “ Ce que le jour doit à la nuit”, “Les intouchables”, “Amelie” și “Jean de Florette”.

Paula SZILAGYI

Bio

Am 20 de ani și sunt studentă la Facultatea de Litere din Cluj-Napoca. Îmi place să descopăr lucruri noi, sunt prietenoasă, dar uneori timidă. Îmi place foarte mult limba franceză, pe care o studiez de mulți ani, literatura, muzica și natura, dar, printre toate activitățile din timpul liber, îmi place să descopăr cinematografia francofonă și nu numai. În general, îmi plac filmele care au un subiect care suscită analiza, atenția și care nu se devoalează prea ușor. Îmi plac filmele de aventură și cele care creează suspans, dar dincolo de acestea, cred că e important ca un film să transmită un mesaj sau o lecție care să dea de gândit.

Raluca MATEIU

Bio

De peste 10 ani lucrez la Institutul Francez din România la Cluj-Napoca, ca și responsabilă de cultură și comunicare. În cadrul Institutului, coordonez două festivaluri de film: Festivalul Filmului Francez la nivel local și Festivalul de foarte scurt metraj Très Court la nivel național, dar și alte proiecte legate de cinematografie (ateliere, dezbateri, proiecții speciale). Sunt pasionată de film și deseori îmi adun prietenii în jurul unui film, urmat de dezbateri intense. Merg la TIFF în fiecare an, din dorința de a descoperi noi regizori și filme din diverse zone ale lumii, pe care le cunosc mai puțin. Mă bucur să coordonez Juriul tinerilor francofoni de anul acesta și le voi încuraja pe fete să reflecteze și să se exprime asupra poveștilor pe care le vor vedea, să iasă din zona de confort pentru a explora diversitatea cinematografiei francofone.
