Photographers Cosmin Bumbuț and Hajdu Tamás Exhibit at TIFF.24

11.06.2025 16:12

At its 24th edition, the Transilvania International Film Festival brings to the forefront four photography exhibitions that can be visited free of charge in Cluj-Napoca between June 13–22. The exhibitions are hosted both at the Art Museum and on Eroilor Boulevard. Whether capturing Romanian migration across Europe, the surreal atmosphere of Romanian streets, the timeless charm of Queen Marie, or legendary actor Florin Piersic’s special bond with Transilvania IFF, this year’s exhibitions offer a visually compelling reflection on both the present and the past.

Plecat – Cosmin Bumbuț, Elena Stancu | Art Museum

Dates: June 13–22, 2025

Visiting Hours: 10:00–18:00

Artist Talk: Saturday, June 14, 16:00

Photographer Cosmin Bumbuț and journalist Elena Stancu have been documenting the lives of Romanians in the diaspora for six and a half years. Since 2019, they’ve traveled to 12 countries across Europe and published over 130 reports on topics such as integration, the European labor market, identity and belonging, the traumas of migration, transnational families, and the children left behind in Romania. The two live and travel in a motorhome, allowing them to document these realities directly within communities.

The project explores the theme of displacement, navigating between identity politics and the fragility of the notion of “home.” Through both visual and narrative means, Plecat investigates the human condition of those living between worlds—a fractured diaspora redefining both symbolic and everyday space.

Greatest Clicks – Hajdu Tamás | Art Museum

Dates: June 13–22, 2025

Visiting Hours: 10:00–18:00

Artist Talk: Tuesday, June 17, 18:00

Greatest Clicks may resemble post-communist fiction, but it is, in fact, raw, unfiltered reality—captured daily by Hajdu Tamás in a visual chronicle of lived absurdity. His work is spontaneous, absurd, often hilarious, sometimes unsettling. It's a visual diary of life in Romania, where the banal collides daily with the ridiculous, and grotesque becomes the norm. Each photograph is a slice of urban truth, a fragment of a reality that defies logic—yet is wholly authentic.

The Faces of Marie – Queen of All Romanians | Art Museum

Dates: June 13–22, 2025

Visiting Hours: 10:00–18:00

Opening Reception: TBD

Marking 150 years since the birth of Queen Marie, the Regina Maria Social Innovations Foundation and Enayati Medical City present a travelling exhibition featuring items from the collection of Dr. Wargha Enayati. This event offers a personal narrative journey into the visual and spiritual legacy of one of the most charismatic and influential figures in modern Romanian history.

The exhibition blends period documents, rare paintings, and vintage postcards with contemporary visual reinterpretations by students of the "Romulus Ladea" Arts High School. Curated by Dr. Oana Ursache, the exhibition reveals a multifaceted Queen Marie: mother, frontline nurse, diplomat, writer, and protector of the vulnerable.

Florin Piersic and TIFF: A Story in Images

Location: Eroilor Boulevard

Dates: June 1–22, 2025

Legendary actor Florin Piersic, who will receive the Excellence Award at TIFF.24, will be celebrated with an exhibition dedicated to his remarkable career. The public will be able to explore a selection of photographs from various editions of the festival, alongside a collection of posters from iconic films in which he starred.

As TIFF President Tudor Giurgiu puts it:

“In 24 years of the festival, we’ve paid tribute to him, awarded him, and applauded him. He stood next to Claudia Cardinale, Jacqueline Bisset, Anna Széles, Tatiana Iekel. He came as a simple filmgoer. In 2010, he joined our iconic image campaign alongside his son, Florin Piersic Jr., recreating a scene from Star Wars. In 2011, the Republica cinema was renamed Florin Piersic, and since then, thousands of international guests ask us, ‘Who is Florin Piersic?’ We could list countless reasons why we want to celebrate him again. Simply put, there’s no one else like him.”
