04.05.2023 11:22

Dedicated to those passionate about unique culinary experiences,  Film Food returns to Transilvania International Film Festival (9 - 18 June). Life stories, intense flavours from the world's most appreciated cuisines, Michelin stars and authentic tastes are all to be found in this year's films in the Film Food section; the screenings will be followed by special dinners prepared at DaPino restaurant by local and international culinary stars, inspired by the subjects of the films in the programme.

Tickets for Film Food are now on sale online -

Sunday, June 11

19.00 - Stella (Tyler Doehring, USA, 2022, 72') | Military Circle

20.30 - Dinner prepared by chef Alex Vitali at DaPino

On Sunday evening, TIFF audiences are invited to Stella: Ciro Oliva, a young, proud and energetic Neapolitan pizza chef, aims to be the first pizzaiolo ever awarded a prestigious Michelin star. As the Michelin Guide is one of the most influential, discreet and critical institutions in gastronomy, Ciro's quest to bring his restaurant Concettina ai Tre Santi up to the level of a Michelin star is far from easy, as other celebrity chefs, experts and journalists confirm.

The film screening will be followed by a dinner prepared by Italian chef Alex Vitali, well known to the people of Cluj for his dishes at DaPino. Alex began his career in Italy, where he also studied gastronomy, and has worked for restaurants in Rome and Miliano, as well as in Australia. He is one of the founders of ViziFoods, a brand of Italian delicacies.

18.30 - She Chef (dir. Melanie Liebheit & Gereon Wetzel, Germany/Austria, 2022, 105') | Military Circle

20.30 - Dinner prepared by Chef Florin Dumitrescu at DaPino, presented by LIDL

She Chef portrays Agnes, recent winner of the Culinary World Cup, on her journey through some of the world's most acclaimed restaurants. The twenty-something completed her apprenticeship at Austria's top restaurant Steirereck and joined the Austrian national cooking team, making her the first and only woman among all the competitors to win the Culinary World Cup in 2018. The film delves into very different cooking cultures and gives us detailed insights into how the world's top restaurants work.

The story continues with a dinner prepared by Chef Florin Dumitrescu, one of Romania's most talented chefs, who found fame as a judge on MasterChef and then Chefi la cuțite. At 35, Florin has already spent more than 20 years in the kitchen, starting as a trainee in restaurants when he was just 14 and becoming a chef at 18. His vision of gastronomy, his unique style and charisma, and his way of creating fusions between classic dishes, taste and modern techniques make him one of the most loved and appreciated chefs in Romania.

Dinner presented by LIDL.

19.00 - La Huella, The Story of a Beach Bar Resto  (d. Alessio Rigo de Righi, Argentina, 2022, 70') | Military Circle

20.30 - Dinner prepared by chef Radu Ionescu at DaPino, presented by Nespresso

Twenty years ago, three friends accepted a challenge: to build on the beach of a small Uruguayan village a restaurant similar to those that existed in the 1950s - simple and honest. A place on the Atlantic Ocean, where stories of Argentina, Uruguay, sea bass, fishermen and good wine are interwoven. La Huella, the story of a beach bar, perfectly captures this end-of-the-world atmosphere.

Chef Radu Ionescu graduated from the famous Le Cordon Bleu school with a Grand Diplôme de Cuisine et Pâtisserie, followed by a diploma in Culinary Management, becoming an alumnus of this culinary institute in 2015. Radu is a Gault Millau Great Chefs of Tomorrow winner in 2019 and the restaurant he founded, KAIAMO (located in Bucharest), is in the Top 1000 best restaurants in the world, according to the WORLD'S 50 BEST top of 2019 so far. The essence of his culinary style is given by values built around Mother Nature, with a focus on passion for gastronomy and respect for local produce and artisans alike.
