TIFF 2010 - Breaking news!

Transilvania IFF 2010 sees the return of some important names in the festival's history: Dagur Kari, winner of the Transilvania Trophy for Noi, the Albino in 2003, will once again star in the TIFF line‐up with his latest feature, The Good Heart (Denmark‐Iceland‐USAFrance‐Germany, 2009) and Pablo Stoll, co‐director of festival winner Whisky in 2005, who will present his Uruguay‐Colombia‐Argentina‐Spain co‐production Hiroshima (Special Mention for Best Ibero‐American Oilm in Mar del Plata 2009). Palme d'Or 2009 contender Visage (France‐Taiwan‐Belgium‐Netherlands), directed by Tsai Min‐Liang; House of Branching Love by cult Finnish director Mika Kaurismaki; André Téchiné's The Girl on the Train / La 9ille de RER (France, 2009) and Danish feature Brotherhood by Nicolo Donato, winner of the Best Film and the Golden Awards of the Rome Film Festival and the Jury Prize for Best Actor at the Tallin Black Nights Film Festival are other hit titles that will be showcased in this year's Transilvania IFF.

 

FOCUS ON ISRAEL, CHILE AND US INDIES

Some of the most acclaimed Oilm industries of recent years, Israel and Chile will each have a dedicated Focus. German‐Israeli‐French‐Lebanese feature Lebanon, directed by Samuel Maoz, winner of the Venice Golden Lion in 2009; Navidad (Chile‐France, 2009), directed by former Transilvania Trophy winner and member of the jury Sebastian Lelio are two of the highlights. TIFF will also include a special best of retrospective dedicated to the famous Sam Spiegel Film & TV School in Jerusalem, celebrating 20 years of activity. The festival's line‐up will also include a focus on US Independents.

 

SPECTACULAR OPEN AIR

Cluj Napoca's Piața Unirii (Unirii Square) will become the host of the biggest open air featured so far in Transilvania IFF. The audience will accomodate in Cluj's central square for the daily evening screenings, transformed and ready to host the most spectacular open air experience ever provided by TIFF.

 

OPERATION KINO

Together with partners Istanbul IFF, Sarajevo IFF and Sofia IFF, funded by the MEDIA International, Transilvania IFF will inaugurate the OPERATION KINO program, destined to promote film culture and to facilitate the access of the wide public in the region to arthouse film. The OPERATION KINO consists of a film tour within Romania, presenting best of Transilvania IFF's programming and also highlights of regional films, presented in our partner festivals.
